Creating content for social media

Taking time to consider what you post on social media is far more important than just using whatever you have to hand. Here are some of the key considerations:
Do you have a brand or a logo? Ensure you stick to them! You can add your logo onto visuals if you like (helps when they get shared), or maybe use particular brand colours in any templates. Keep your tone consistent with who you are as a chaplaincy.
Your story: Remember to post text, images and videos that represent who you are as a chaplaincy, a window into your life as a community. What makes you special? What can people expect at your church? If you pride yourself on being particularly welcoming, then ensure you include lots of smiling faces and maybe an open church door!
Images and video: Keep up to date with the way each channel you choose to be on is working and how they will be broadcasting your posts. That means keeping an eye on the size of your images and the length of your videos. Sprout Social keeps its advice up to date, so it's worth keeping these pages favourited: Always up to date social media image sizes and Always up to date video specifications. Canva has some useful-sized templates. At the diocese, we have also created templates for various messages we post, which helps with consistency and also saves time in creation.
Adapt: Different channels have different audiences and you will have scoped this out in your Social Media Strategy. Make sure that the content you use for each relates to that.
Be Authentic: You can share personal stories and insights, fostering a deeper connection with the audience by showcasing a more authentic and relatable side of faith and church life.
Building Community and Ministry
Use a variety: Different types of content for different campaigns keep things interesting and build momentum, for example:
- behind-the-scenes videos
- worship practices
