The Nicene Creed from a Feminist Perspective
"It is a joy to commend the following three contributions on the Nicene Creed from the perspective of women in the Diocese in Europe. Within the celebration of Nicaea, they raise questions of considerable gravity for all of us to ponder. Pausing to consider these questions can only enrich the journey of faith that we share." Reverend Annie Bolger
Continuing our series of personal reflections on the Nicene Creed from various perspectives, here we feature three female voices speaking from a feminist perspective. Below, these women introduce their perspectives and all three come together in the reflection which can be downloaded here: Three voices: A feminist perspective
We were asked to collaborate in celebrating Nicaea 1700 because we represent some of the voices which are marginalized in the church. But we are not marginal in our own lives. What we believe, and what we say about what we believe, is completely central to us. Hence our project “What is unspeakable when we say the Nicene Creed?”

“What is it that I can’t say, what is unspeakable, when it comes to the Nicene Creed?”
Karen Papellero
“This tells us something profound: God does not force God’s way into the world. God waits for a human ‘yes’.”
We encourage you to be thinking about your own response to the Nicene Creed.
