The power of the cross – from the Holy Land to Ukraine
The chaplaincy in All Saints Anglican Church of Luxembourg has strong links to Ukraine. Here, Curate at All Saints, Rev Alison Heal, reports on a recent initiative of theirs:
'One member of the congregation, Natalya, returns regularly to help organise resilience training for health care professionals and now military chaplains. Through this has developed a personal friendship between All Saints chaplain, Geoff Read, and two Orthodox military chaplains, Andriy and Anatoli.
All Saints has sent tourniquets, and small holding crosses for chaplains to use in their ministries. The last consignment was 500 crosses now being given to front line troops - sources of hope, symbols of life! These crosses come from a workshop in the West Bank in Palestine via the organisation Friends of the Holy Land.
Through Geoff’s contact with the Anglican chaplain of Ramallah, Father Fadi Diab, Palestinian Anglicans are hugely encouraged that from their struggles they can pass on hope in Ukraine! They write: ‘From the land where Christ walked, these crosses travel as symbols of hope, prayer, and peace to those living through the realities of war.’ (taken from The Friends of the Holy Land on Facebook)
Geoff concludes: ‘The power of the cross is truly something that connects us as believers’.'
