Are you being called into ministry in the Diocese in Europe?
‘Jesus called his first disciples with the words, 'Follow me' - and he offers the same invitation today. He calls each of us to use our gifts and talents in Christlike ways in the world around us.
In responding to God's call and finding our place among God's people, we accept commitments that shape our identity and the roles we fulfil. Vocation, is simply another word for the life-shaping commitment God is calling you to.’
Could it be you?
Each year, on the fourth Sunday of Easter, Vocations Sunday is celebrated and promoted to encourage each of us to prayerfully consider how we are serving God. This year, it falls on April 26th.
In terms of those called to have a vocation ministering in our diocese, we are blessed and grateful to have a growing number of individuals at various stages of that process, we currently have 22 ordinands in training. We are also expecting that there will be 12 ordinations in June (6 to deacon and 6 to priest).
Here are some of our amazing chaplains talking about their experience of ministering in our diocese:
Ways to investigate your own vocation
Take a look at our Vocations page which has information about some of the various routes you can take.
Are you aged between 18-29?
You could consider participating in The Ministry Experience Scheme, which is a chance to be given a guided year of ministerial opportunity. For some it helps clarify a vocation to ordained ministry and others it helps integrate them as lay disciples more fully into the life of the Church. This is an amazing opportunity, which continues to have life changing results for those that participate and the chaplaincies they are placed within. Here is a leaflet about the scheme – be aware that the extended deadline for 2026 is now May 15th
In Prayer
Prayerfully consider your own vocation and discuss with a spiritual advisor or your chaplain. Likewise, please share this information with any that you think may consider a vocation in the diocese.
Please continue to pray for:
All those who currently minister in our diocese.
All involved in the Diocesan discernment process and those who oversee the selection for the Church of England, as well as those who work in Theological education, it would be very much appreciated.
For all those currently in training – for their families, the chaplaincies with which they are connected and in which they will serve and the colleges which have trained them.
Almighty God, you have entrusted to your Church a share in the ministry of your Son our great high priest:
inspire by your Holy Spirit the hearts of many to offer themselves for the ministry of your Church,
that, strengthened by his power,
they may work for the increase of your kingdom
and set forward the eternal praise of your name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
