Amsterdam chaplaincy hosts the second Our Voice Matters event

Following on from the successful event in June in Prague, a second Our Voice Matters gathering took place in Amsterdam last weekend. Rev Iain Bendrey, Head of Strategy for Children and Youth Ministry recounts:

Fifteen young adults from the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg came together to build friendships, encourage each other, hear stories of faith, learn about the Diocese and the Anglican Church and discuss how the church (locally and nationally) can engage young adults more. There was also an opportunity to explore Amsterdam City through a fun game.

Archdeacon Sam attended and answered many questions about the church, Diocese and theology. A summary of the discussions that took place will be shared at the North West Archdeaconry Synod as well as with the Bishop’s senior staff.

A huge thank-you to Revd David, Antonia, Rufus for assistance with organisation and especially to those families who hosted our young adults. Some of the young people´s comments on the weekend are below.
'It was really encouraging to meet people from other churches in the diocese and to experience the body of Christ in a big picture. Their questions and concerns and willingness to involve in the church in future is also uplifting for me!'
Rufus, Amsterdam
'I had a really good time! It was great to meet people from different churches and to be able to share about our experiences and what we appreciate in the communities we find ourselves in. I think it was a good step forward in working towards a church that listens to and values all voices, regardless of age or background'
Rhode, Amsterdam
'This past weekend was an amazing experience. The initiative deepened my understanding of the Anglican community, particularly how provinces function within the wider church framework. Bringing together young people in the diocese not only expanded my network but also made me feel seen and valued. I hope this inclusive activity continues to grow in the coming years, building on the contributions of youth and young adults to ensure the longevity of the regional Anglican community.'
Anthonette, The Hague
'It was really nice to meet other young Anglicans from the diocese. It is encouraging to hear from other young people how they be active in their communities. And it was a great way of fun (exploring Amsterdam) and serious discussion about the role of young people in the church. I think it’s really good to discuss that with young people.'
Jordi, Utrecht
'It was a joy to join other youth from across the Benelux this past weekend in Amsterdam! I especially appreciated the opportunity given us by the Diocese to engage in a synodal and inclusive consultation on what we want to see from our Church — not to mention that it was very fun!'
Logan, Voorschoten
'It was great to meet with young adults from the Diocese. The weekend for me was an opportunity to learn from other young people on how to engage young adults in my chaplaincy better. Despite the long journey, it was worth it. It would be nice if it could be sustained, giving opportunities to other young people to understand and know the extent to which our voices are heard.'
Olumuyiwa, Luxembourg
'I loved to connect with young people from the Benelux, learn from them and have fun! I felt heard by the church and that our concerns were taken seriously. Thanks for this opportunity!'
Simone, Utrecht
