This weekend, our chaplaincy of All Saints Rome had the pleasure of being joined by Archbishop Sarah as part of her visit to Rome. She presided at the service which included baptisms. She went on after this to preach at Evensong at St Pauls Within the Walls.
Bishop Robert, who preached at the morning service shared:
"Sunday was a full and joyous day. Archbishop Sarah met large numbers of people from the Roman Catholic Church and from the Anglican and Episcopal Communities. The new Archbishop's natural humanity and warmth make her a popular and appealing guest. She engaged well with the parents and godparents at the All Saints baptism service, reminding them of their responsibilities for bringing up their children in the Christian faith.
Her visit to St Pauls within the walls was her first visit in office to an Anglican Communion church outside the Church of England. She preached a sermon that drew on the very remarkable architecture of the building. On Sunday evening she hosted a dinner for a large number of ecumenical guests. All in all, it was a packed and richly rewarding schedule ahead of the meeting with Pope Leo today."
Lambeth Palace shared that the purpose of the visit is to strengthen Anglican–Roman Catholic relations through prayer, personal encounter, and formal theological dialogue. It aims to deepen bonds of communion, affirm a shared witness, and encourage ongoing collaboration at both global and local levels.
Today, Archbishop Sarah will meet and pray with Pope Leo XIV.
