Thanks to new funding from the Church of England and the Diocese in Europe, we are able to offer more card reader devices to chaplaincies.

FREE small card reader devices:

The Church of England's second Digital Giving Rollout project has a focus on 'churches in deprived areas' as their data shows that cost is a major factor in the adoption of card reader giving in English parishes. 

The Diocese in Europe is still discussing with the Church of England what constitutes a 'chaplaincy in an area of deprivation or serves a deprived demographic' in the Diocese in Europe. (In the UK there are clear government statistics at a postcode level which help other dioceses look at their parish churches.)

If your chaplaincy is in an area of low income, deprivation or serves a deprived demographic*, we will be able to provide you with a FREE card reader device in early 2027. Please contact Juliet Evans for an informal discussion to see if you might qualify and/or to register your interest.

The card reader device will be the Collectin Solo and your chaplaincy will be offered training and support throughout the process. 

Key information about the Collectin Solo:

• It uses SumUp technology only (the chaplaincy will need register for the technology in advance)
• It uses a SumUp Solo card reader (note: not SumUp Lite or SumUp Air)
• The Church of England has indicated that these devices will have some offline capability ie they can used to collect donations if you have no wifi or no mobile signal in your chaplaincy building. The Diocese is awaiting confirmation of this.
• The box will designed with your chaplaincy name on it.

Grants for other card reader devices:

If your chaplaincy isn't eligible for a free device, then you can still apply for a grant towards either a small or larger device via the Digital Giving Expressions of Interest application form. These devices are part-funded through grants from the Diocese and are similar to the devices offered in the first Digital Giving Rollout project.
