“This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and the stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar – the Lord Almighty is his name.” Jeremiah 31: 35

Yesterday a partial solar eclipse swept across most of our diocese, and some places got to experience an extremely rare total eclipse. Last night was also one of the best moments this year to see the celestial fireworks of the Perseids meteor shower. Here are a few of the images captured across the Diocese:

These special events make us more aware of the majesty of the universe and the wonder of creation. Our Diocesan Advisor for Creation Care Zélie Peppiette has written this beautiful prayer for us to share: 

Creator God,

We praise you for the universe you have made and the earth you have given us to live in.

We give you thanks for the laws of space and time which give us night and day, rainfall and ocean currents, seasons and harvests.

We stand before you in awe and wonder as the solar eclipse reminds us that it is you who has set the moon and stars in place, and that you have created all things to work together. That you have made a beautiful home where all your creatures can flourish.  

Increase our love for the world around us, and inspire us to cherish and protect all that you have made so that we may live in peace and harmony with all your creation.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who came to redeem the world, and will come again in glory to restore all things,
