1. The Diocese in Europe uses the Church of England Common Application form,
which is available in a pre-printed format from the diocesan office. Alternatively,
it can be downloaded from the diocesan website in .rtf format or emailed to the applicant.
2. The form can also be downloaded from the Clergy Appointments Adviser's
[CAA] web pages where the Common Application Form link gives full instructions.

however, this is only suitable for Microsoft Word Versions 6 and above.
3. The Word document has been created as a set of tables containing Form
Fields for completion, and has been protected to avoid accidental changes to
the layout.
4. Navigation of the form from box to box is achieved by use of the TAB key.
5. Form Field placeholders will appear greyed on the screen as will completed
fields. Care should be taken not to overfill the spaces provided.
6. In order to economise on paper, users may wish to print the form double
sided by printing first the ODD pages and then EVEN pages on the same paper.

7. In Section 6 – Marital Status – Your Family, applicants are asked to
indicate whether a spouse is ordained and, if so, whether deacon or priest.
Where this is the case, applicants who are selected for the shortlist will
be sent additional information.
8. In Section 8 – Reasons for Applying for this Post, applicants should
also include details of any foreign language skills and indicate the degree
of competence ie basic; basic++; or fluent.
9. All applicants should note that a proficiency in spoken and written English
is a diocesan policy requirement for all licensed clergy.
Data Protection:
Applicants should be aware of the following:
1. Information given on the application is shared with the members of the
Bishop's staff, the church representatives selected to act on behalf of the
Church Council in connection with the appointment and the Archdeacon.
2. Certain information eg name, address, telephone/fax number and e-mail
address are stored electronically on the diocesan database. The completed application
form may also stored in a manual filing system.
3. The Diocese in Europe is registered under the Data Protection Act 1984,
registration number: U076412
Interviews Travel Expenses:
1.Interviews take place in London.
2. For priests within the Church of England, Church of Wales, Church of Ireland
and Episcopal Church of Scotland travelling expenses to London will be reimbursed
in full.
3. It is an expectation that care will be taken to ensure that the most economical
method of travel will be used.
4. For priests within other Provinces of the Anglican Church travelling expenses
to London will be reimbursed from the port of entry into England ie port or
airport.
5. Priests serving in Anglican Provinces (or Churches in Communion) beyond
Europe should indicate at the end of Section 8 on the application form the
sources of funding that (were they to be selected for the short list) would
enable them to travel to London for interview on the specified date.
Offers of Appointment
Offers of employment are conditional upon:
1. Completion of the Confidential Declaration (Church of England Policy on
the Protection of Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults) and providing
the supporting documents as indicated.
2. UK passport holders obtaining satisfactory
Enhanced Disclosure information from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). A copy
of Disclosure: Diocesan Policy Statement; Disclosure: Diocesan Appeals and
Complaints Procedure; and, Disclosure: How to Apply for Enhanced Disclosure
will be sent candidates who are selected for the short list. Only the appointee
will be required to submit an application.
3. UK passport holders, currently
resident in another country, obtaining a certificate of good conduct, a document
indicating no criminal record or a printout of criminal record from their country
of residence. This is in addition to the CRB procedure.
4. Non-UK passport holders
obtaining a certificate of good conduct, a document indicating no criminal
record or a printout of criminal record from their country of origin and their
country of residence.
5. Evidence of ordination – Letters of Orders (Canon C10(2) Canons of the
Church of England)
6. For priests ordained other than in the Church of England, the Church in
Wales, the Church of Ireland or Episcopal Church of Scotland, obtaining the
Archbishop of Canterbury’s Permission to Officiate under the Overseas and Other
Clergy (Ministry and Ordination) Measure 1967.
7. Submission of a medical certificate or letter from GP indicating fitness
to work in the place where the church is situated.
8. Receipt of the Confirmation
of Acceptance of the Appointment from the appointed representatives of the
church.
9. The Conditions of Service form having been completed and signed by
the churchwardens, the appointee, the archdeacon and the diocesan secretary.
